VS TANK
REVIEW #3
RUSSIAN KV-2 |
|
INTRODUCTION;
As I continue RC Tank HQ's series of
reviews about 1/24 scale VS tanks, I'm
pleased to take a look at the Russian
KV-2 heavy tank, in this case, the IR
combat version. Please note that the VS
Tank display base pictured above is not
included with VS Tank ready sets and is
available separately.
|
|
|
|
I've been impressed by the VS tanks I have
reviewed so far, but I must say that the KV-2 is
by far the best out of the box performer of them
all. In particular, after a couple of hours
battling time with the stock rubber tracks, both
indoors and out, it has not once thrown a track!
As well, it has a relatively slow top speed
befitting the lumbering giant that the KV-2 was
in real life. |

NEW
IMPROVEMENTS |
|
|
VOLUME CONTROL |
 |
VS Tank have introduced an adjustable volume
control, with settings for mid and full volume,
or you can turn the sound completely off.
Previous releases have been 'full volume only'. |
|
LIGHT LENSES |
 |
|
As mentioned in my previous reviews, the IR
version came with clear lenses at the base of
the turret to allow the flashing internal
'damage effect' lights to shine through. These
have now been dispensed with, and as you can see
in the review video, the lights are powerful
enough anyway to show through the plastic hull
and turret without the need for any clear
lenses. |

FEATURES; |
| |
In addition to the above improvements, the KV-2
has all the desirable features of the 1/24 IR
combat series that have already been covered in
earlier reviews in this series including;
*Aluminium, recoiling barrel
*Working suspension arms
*3 forward and 2 reverse speeds
*Engine, weapons and damage sound effects
*Push and turn 'hide away' IR combat sensor on
turret |
| |
 |
|
Of course each ready set comes with a
controller and crystals are already installed.
Currently there are 6 channels available. |
|
|
 |
|
The
KV-2 also comes with a commander and some extra
accessory items like spare tracks,
an extra storage bin and fuel tanks. |

IR COMBAT
In the desktop demo portion of the review video, you can
see how the KV-2 reacts to getting shot up by the VS
Tank Sherman,(the subject of my next review). I thought
I'd show everyone how VS Tanks can score a hit by using
the machine gun instead of the main gun, and the first
hit reaction you see is caused by the Sherman MG firing
a series of bursts at the KV-2, followed by a couple of
main gun hits, and finally, the 'kill shot' after which
the tank continues to be immobile and lights flash until
it is manually reset.
DETAILING
As the close-up photos show, VS Tank have continued
their high standards and use of separately molded parts,
resulting in another well detailed tank model for this
scale.
CONCLUSION
VS Tank have produced a real winner with the KV-2!
Besides the many VS Tank fans who will undoubtedly add
this to their collection, if you're new to the hobby of
RC Tanks and are looking for a reliable, affordable
first tank, then the VS Tank KV-2 is a great choice. But
be warned, VS Tanks are highly addictive and you'll want
to collect them all! |
